Ducati's Aerodynamic Dilemma: A Complex Battle for MotoGP Supremacy
In the world of MotoGP, Ducati is facing a challenging situation as they grapple with their aerodynamic package at the Sepang test. Marc Marquez, a key rider, has revealed the extent of their task, stating he needs to assess "four different aspects" of their aero setup.
Aerodynamics has long been a crucial battleground for Ducati, especially since their innovative winglets debuted in 2015. However, last year's season saw a split strategy, with the team running both the 2024 and 2025 aero packages, creating a unique challenge.

Marquez, who was 15th on the first day of the Sepang test, emphasized the importance of aerodynamics, stating, "It's the thing you will homologate at the Thailand race."
And this is the part most people miss... The engine base remains the same due to regulations, but aerodynamics can significantly alter a bike's balance. Marquez explained, "When you put on a new aero package, you need to be patient and adjust the bike's balance."
When asked about the scope of his task on the final day of the Sepang test, Marquez replied, "Four different aspects of aero. That's why we have a big job ahead." He further clarified that they need to choose the best combination for the entire 22-race season.
Ducati unveiled a radical new front fairing this week at Sepang, which received a mixed response from riders. On the second day of testing, various Ducatis were spotted with different aero packages, including 2024 and 2025-spec wings.
Under the current regulations, one aero package must be homologated before the season opener. Non-concession rank D manufacturers are then allowed only one further spec upgrade during the season.
