The search for a new head coach for the Steelers is officially underway, and candidates are currently undergoing in-person interviews. This pivotal moment in the team's history has fans eager to stay informed about the latest developments regarding the coaching staff.
Anthony Weaver, Defensive Coordinator for Miami Dolphins
Anthony Weaver has just wrapped up his second season as the defensive coordinator for the Miami Dolphins, a position he took on in 2024. With an impressive background spanning 21 years in the NFL—14 of which were spent coaching and 7 playing—Weaver has proven to be a formidable presence in football.
Throughout his coaching career, he has nurtured six Pro Bowl athletes across various teams, notably producing J.J. Watt with the Texans in 2018 and Nnamdi Madubuike with the Ravens in 2023, who was also recognized as a second-team Associated Press All-Pro. Weaver's tenure with the Baltimore Ravens lasted three seasons (2021-23), where he served as both the assistant head coach and defensive line coach during his last two years.
His extensive experience includes stints with the Houston Texans, Cleveland Browns, Buffalo Bills, and New York Jets. As a player, Weaver was selected by the Ravens in the second round of the 2002 NFL Draft, marking the 52nd overall pick. He played seven seasons in total—four with the Ravens (2002-05) and three with the Texans (2006-08).
Mike McCarthy, Former Head Coach of the Dallas Cowboys and Green Bay Packers
Mike McCarthy boasts a rich coaching career that spans 18 seasons in the NFL, primarily with the Green Bay Packers from 2006 to 2018 and the Dallas Cowboys from 2020 to 2024. A native of Pittsburgh, he holds a commendable overall coaching record of 174 wins, 112 losses, and 2 ties. Notably, he steered the Packers to victory in Super Bowl XLV, securing his place as the second-winningest coach in the franchise's history with 125 career wins.
During his time with the Cowboys, McCarthy achieved three seasons with 12 wins each and guided the team to the playoffs three times within five seasons. Before becoming a head coach, he also gained valuable experience as the offensive coordinator for the New Orleans Saints and San Francisco 49ers.
Brian Flores, Defensive Coordinator for the Minnesota Vikings
Brian Flores has just concluded his third season as the defensive coordinator for the Minnesota Vikings, during which the team’s defense ranked first in the NFC and third overall in the NFL in 2025. The Vikings' defensive unit led the conference against the pass and secured second place in the league for net passing yards allowed per game. They also excelled in limiting yards allowed, ranking third in the NFL for both yards per game and per play.
Prior to joining the Vikings, Flores served as a senior defensive assistant and linebackers coach for the Steelers during the 2022 season. His previous role as head coach of the Miami Dolphins from 2019 to 2021 saw him achieving back-to-back winning seasons in 2020 and 2021. Flores began his career with the New England Patriots in 2011, contributing to four Super Bowl championships over eight years.
