The Tasmania Devils are set to make a bold statement with their inaugural playing jumper, a design that encapsulates the club's rich history and future aspirations. As the team gears up for their VFL and VFLW debut, the new kit promises to be a powerful symbol of their journey.
At the heart of the jumper lies a striking Devils head, a bold representation of the team's strength and the spirit of Tasmania. This iconic symbol is accompanied by two horizontal lines, a subtle yet powerful nod to the club's men's and women's teams, as well as the dedicated members who support them.
One of the most intriguing aspects of the design is the phrase 'Honouring The Map – Inspiring The Future' printed inside the neckline. This phrase pays homage to the traditional Tasmanian map, a symbol that has been a part of the state's AFL history. However, the map itself does not appear on the jumper, adding an air of mystery and intrigue.
Brendon Gale, the Tasmania Football Club chief executive, expressed his excitement about the launch, stating, 'We are thrilled to unveil this new kit, a perfect blend of our past and future. The design incorporates meaningful elements that resonate with our athletes and, we hope, our fans as well.'
The jumper will make its debut in the coming weeks as the VFL and VFLW seasons commence. Gale added, 'This is just one of the many guernseys we will introduce throughout our journey. Alongside our Foundation Jumper, we are proud to present this design today.'
The men's team will take to the field for the first time in a premiership match against Coburg at North Hobart Oval on March 21, marking a significant return of VFL football to Tasmania since 2008. Meanwhile, the women's team will kick off their inaugural VFLW season on May 16 against Casey Demons, also at North Hobart Oval.
It's worth noting that this jumper is distinct from the AFL and AFLW guernseys, which will be unveiled before the Devils participate in those competitions in 2028. This strategic separation highlights the club's commitment to maintaining a unique identity in each of its ventures.
