Bold headline moment: a modern keyboard phone that evokes the classic BlackBerry era is back in a sleeker, smaller form. Unihertz has just expanded its lineup with the Titan 2 Elite, a compact evolution of the Titan series that carries a physical keyboard. It’s noticeably more streamlined than the original Titan and surfaces in the trendy orange shade that’s trending right now, while still drawing strong visual echoes of a BlackBerry.
In January, Unihertz teased the Elite, hinting at a smaller Titan 2 with rounded edges. After seeing it in person at Mobile World Congress, I can confirm that description holds true. The Elite’s keys are a touch smaller than those on the Titan 2, and the back-panel secondary screen is absent. Like the Titan 2, the keyboard doubles as a trackpad, and you can assign custom shortcuts to the physical keys. The display sits at 4.05 inches OLED, a step down from the Titan 2’s 4.5-inch LCD.
The Titan 2 Elite is notably light and easily slips into a pocket. A programmable side key and a physical SIM slot add practical touches. One noticeable omission is the 3.5mm headphone jack, which was surprising at first—my mistaken assumption about an IR blaster didn’t help either. Still, there’s a growing nostalgia for the BlackBerry-inspired design language, and this revival trend is hard to ignore.
Pricing details for the Titan 2 Elite aren’t available yet, but Unihertz confirms a Kickstarter launch planned for March to bring it to market.
